The key goal of My Power Foundation is to provide ways for people to donate in a manner that allows them to have direct ownership of the results and to feel a personal connection to those they are helping.
“Families Adopting Families”, is an annual holiday program where we identify underprivileged or struggling families and partner them with donors to provide deserving families with the items they need.
Based on a holiday wish list format, the families selected to provide their adopting family with a detailed description of their family members and what they would like for the holidays.
Our families and friends met for a “wrap party” where we wrapped all the gifts to be donated to our adopted families. One of MPF’s goals is to grow this tradition year by year and help as many underprivileged families as possible. There is nothing quite like seeing pictures of your family opening the gifts you bought for them!
My Power Foundation teamed up with Packer, girlsonlyny and Strictly Bicycles for a bike riding event which raised money for families in domestic violence shelters.
Helping in Haiti
My Power Foundation provided assistance to families in need after the devastating Earthquake in Haiti. An estimated 1.2 million were left homeless after the powerful quake on January 12, 2010.
While many donated to the Red Cross, who saw record donations, the problem was getting the supplies out of the airports and to the people who were stranded in areas where the infrastructure prevented deliveries.
MPF partnered with Samaritan Air to help get supplies out of the airport and to the families that desperately needed relief. Many of the families that came to My Power for help were airlifted supplies and water.
Dr. Docteur
Following the 2010 earthquakes in Haiti, heroism was displayed by many first responders and front-line workers. One hero was Dr. Docteur, a doctor in Haiti treating anyone who sought medical attention amid all of the tragedy and devastation. During the days and weeks following the earthquake, the doctor worked tirelessly around the clock as he treated patients in an unstable, fragile tent with limited resources. One day, people entered his medical tent and robbed him at gunpoint. The robbers took many of his already limited supplies including all of his remaining medication and drugs. On their way out, the robbers shot Dr. Docteur and fled.
When the team at MyPowerFoundation learned of what had happened to Dr. Docteur, we immediately pulled together all of our resources to help the doctor. We organized an emergency air lift to bring Docteur to the main airport where we assisted his transport from Haiti to Atlanta, GA where he would be treated at a local hospital. Following several surgeries, Dr. Docteur was finally cleared to go home but lost mobility in his legs as a result of the damage caused by the shooting. Our work was not yet done, as Dr. Docteur needed a motorized wheelchair to assist with his mobility. We again, put together the resources necessary to deliver a motorized wheelchair for the good doctor.
Dr. Docteur, a selfless, family man risked his life to help people in need, even putting his own safety and wellbeing at risk. The friends of MyPowerFoundation were honored to help the doctor just as he did so many people.
Past Projects
My Power Foundation has organized and provided assistance to those in need during times of crisis. Over the past decade, MPF has worked to help provide aid to those affected by natural disasters such as the 2010 Haiti Earthquake and the aftermath of Hurricane Irma in Puerto Rico.
